2008 and Update
After a supreme start to 2007 The Contrast were made an offer they couldn't refuse by Silvio Dante himself (as played by a certain Steven Van Zandt). Little Steven put together on his own Wicked Cool Records a compilation of tracks that he himself had featured on his show. This collection serves a fine introduction to the band for new fans as well as offering old fans some new tracks and acoustic versions of old tunes. This album, entitled "Perfect Disguise: Introducing The Contrast", not only sports a fun and groovy looking front cover (the first to feature The Contrast) it comes in a fine looking tri-fold digipak. While this album has been quietly available on the WCR website for some time it set for a full release on February 19th 2008. Put that date in your diary as it will be the first of what I am sure will be a long line of releases on Wicked Cool.
All in all 2007 was a pretty busy year for The Contrast. They released a killer album called "Underground Ghosts" for their old label Rainbow Quartz which blew their other releases out of the water, setting a brand new standard for the band to surpass. Tracks from this album were picked up by US radio stations, including Little Steven's Underground Garage show, and have regularly (and prominently) featured in both the video and audio versions of the Evolving Artists charts. The year was topped off quite nicely by Ken Barnes of USA Today putting Underground Ghosts in his albums of the year list.
So on behalf David, Richard, Fozzy, Kieran and myself I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and tell you to keep watching this space, because The Contrast are most certainly not showing any signs of slowing down this year. With the finely oiled Renegade Nation machine now behind them I see them only going from strength to strength in 2008.
